Madison County Commissioners Approve Sewer Project, Insurance Renewal at Brief Meeting

LONDON, Ohio — The Madison County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a slate of routine resolutions, including a contract for Mount Sterling sewer improvements and a juvenile court grant agreement, during a meeting that lasted just under an hour.

Commissioners Chris Wallace, Brendan Shay and Dr. Sneegas voted unanimously on all measures before them. The board approved minutes from the previous week’s meeting by a 3-0 roll call vote.

Jim Abbott, the county engineer, reported that the county had received its reimbursement check for OC-3 tax and off-road diversion funds. No further action was required on that item.

Dennis presented the CORSA insurance renewal for 2026, noting a 1.14% increase in premiums. He highlighted enhanced cyber coverage and reimbursement programs included in the policy. The invoice had already been paid, and the presentation was provided for informational purposes only.

The board approved a resolution authorizing payment of invoices for the Madison County Department. Commissioners also signed off on a juvenile court youth services grant agreement covering fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

In a move that will affect driver testing, the board approved an agreement with the Ohio Department of Public Safety Bureau of Motor Vehicles to allow third-party administration of Class D skills tests. Commissioners also approved an IV-D contract between the Madison County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Prosecutor’s Office.

A resolution authorizing publication of notice to contractors for the Mount Sterling sewer improvements project was approved without discussion.

Commissioner Shay was appointed to the Board of Revision, with Rob serving as alternate.

Kevin Willie of the engineer’s office provided updates on bridge construction projects. Betty Wilson Road is now underway with piling work, and the road is expected to be closed for only a few weeks. Dyer Road work is scheduled to begin in June. Blade Run is running about a month ahead of schedule and could open by mid-June rather than mid-July. Chestnut Bend remains on schedule for a July start.

Willie also praised an open house held for transmission line work, calling it well-attended and well-received by the community.

The board introduced new employee Shana Edwards, who comes from municipal work and will be working with Dennis. She expressed excitement about her new role.
